In modern Hinduism, Brahma is not widely worshiped and is seen as less important than the other members of the Trimurti since he married his own daughter, Saraswati, who erupted from his mouth. It is claimed that after admiring Saraswati's beauty, he arrived with the wish to make her his spouse. He pursued her in the shape of a deer and eventually obtained his wish. In retaliation, Shiva, in the shape of Bhairava, fiercely removed one of Brahma's five heads, leaving him with four. Shiva cursed him, saying that he would never be worshiped as the primary deity again. Brahma is mentioned in ancient scriptures, however he is seldom venerated as a main god in India. [16] There are just a few temples dedicated to him in India, the most notable of which being the Brahma Temple at Pushkar, Rajasthan. [17] Outside of India, Brahma temples may be seen, for example, in the Erawan Shrine in Bangkok. [18]
