Turning the archives into amusing tiny GIFs, like those seen on the Smithsonian Libraries Tumblr, is one method to rekindle children's enthusiasm in libraries. The Smithsonian Institution comprises 20 museums, each with its own library, and the staff has digitized about 40,000 of the institution's books during the last two decades. This amounts to 14 million pages of valuable, historical content ranging from biodiversity to the history of aviation to African art. The problem is that most individuals are unaware that such a plethora of (free!) knowledge is accessible to the public.
