Yasunari Tsuru is another handsome anime man from the Number24 anime. He also plays rugby at the left wing position. Despite his poor self-esteem, he is an excellent rugby player. Much of The Neon Demon repeats tropes weve come to anticipate from cautionary tales about beautiful young ladies heading to Hollywood for fame: there are abusive, untrustworthy guys; there are surprising bursts of devastating violence; and there are decent girls who arent really what they seem to be. Refn's film isn't nuanced in its exploration of those ideas, but the way it intersects how Hollywood puts figurative expiration dates on women's bodies with the morbid viciousness of literal consumption creates an unsettling realization that what can be eaten isn't all that different from the entity doing the eating.
